The UnderGround Effect - Read the Stage Play

The Underground Effect Poster

Based on true events.

The UnderGround Effect is a new play that explores racism in the Black community, young love, social norms, and the controversial topic of interracial love. The play takes place in modern times at a high school in a suburb down South.

Jakira Clemens is a high school senior that desperately tries to find a date in time for prom. She conveniently meets Zachary Romero, the popular, lustful quarterback of the football team who falls head over heels with her at first sight, but there is one issue that hinders the new love: Zachary is Caucasian and Jakira is African-American. Although Jakira and Romero become infatuated with one another and desire to attend prom together, the two young lovers must face prejudice, ridicule, and pressure by their peers and families who disapprove of their interracial relationship – even until the evening of prom.
